This implant can restore sight for patients with macular degeneration
A new medical device called PRIMA can help people with macular degeneration regain some of their sight by combining a retinal implant with special glasses that have cameras. The system was approved for use in Europe and is pending approval in the US, where it will be evaluated by the FDA. Over 80% of patients who used the system showed improvement.
Why it's good news: It offers new hope to millions of people around the world who have lost their sight due to macular degeneration, a condition that until now had no cure or treatment.
