Physicists just found the ‘ghost’ of superconductivity
Physicists have made a significant discovery in uranium ditelluride, finding evidence of an unusual form of superconductivity where electrons behave strangely. This phenomenon appears when electron pairs organize into patterns called pair density waves, and these patterns may even persist after the material stops being superconductive. The findings suggest that something mysterious is happening before the material becomes fully superconductive.
Why it's good news: It represents a step forward in our understanding of one of the most complex and intriguing phenomena in physics.
