NASA-Funded Research Finds Complex Life Defying Record Heat
Researchers found that a certain type of amoeba can survive and recover from extremely high temperatures, even up to 158 degrees Fahrenheit. This finding suggests that life is capable of thriving in environments previously thought to be inhospitable. The amoeba was able to remain partially active at temperatures as high as 150.8 degrees Fahrenheit.
Why it's good news: It expands our understanding of what conditions can support complex life forms, potentially leading to new discoveries and a greater appreciation for the resilience of living organisms.
The science section covers breakthroughs in medicine, physics, biology, and technology. We surface discoveries that expand what humanity can do, from new treatments reaching clinical trials to engineering feats that seemed impossible a decade ago.
