Indonesia’s mosque loudspeakers might save lives during natural disasters
Researchers have discovered that Indonesia's widespread mosque loudspeakers could be used to transmit emergency messages during natural disasters. This infrastructure already exists and reaches a large population. The call to prayer is broadcast five times a day from nearly all of the country's hundreds of thousands of mosques.
Why it's good news: It highlights an existing resource that can potentially save lives in emergency situations.
