California legalizes balcony solar for renters and beyond
California has made it possible for apartment renters and others without roof ownership to install plug-in solar panels on their balconies or other outdoor spaces. This new technology doesn't require professional installation or large upfront costs. Compliant models are expected to be available by mid-2027.
Why it's good news: It expands access to solar power, a clean and renewable energy source, to more people.
Environment stories track ecosystems recovering, species rebounding, clean energy milestones, and conservation wins. Climate news is included when the story centers on measurable progress rather than projections of future damage. We believe tracking what is working is as important as tracking what is not.
