Animals may have evolved 200 million years earlier than we thought
New research suggests that animal evolution occurred much earlier than previously believed, potentially dating back to 800-700 million years ago. This revised timeline means animals may have existed before or during the Snowball Earth period, leaving behind minimal fossil evidence. Soft-bodied animals likely had a low chance of being preserved.
Why it's good news: It expands our understanding of how life on Earth began and evolved over millions of years.
